As we approach the 250th anniversary of the United States, one can often see what is occurring daily and wonder if we will survive as a democracy or continue on to becoming an authoritarian nation of divided peoples, ruled over by a government that is focused on taking from the poor to give to the rich.

Would you ever have believed there would be so many potential changes to the rule of law, to the White House property itself, to the power of a presidency gone rogue, to one man seizing the reins and making over the country to suit his own vision while ignoring the authority accorded solely to Congress? Or is it one man acting on his own? Who is really holding the power? And why are so very few speaking out to save the country? What skeletons are being hidden in the proverbial closets of the powerful men in Congress, the judiciary, the military?

Are we at war? That determination appears to depend on the time of day and the whim of one man who seems to be running headlong into a deep state of dementia. No other president has made such wild uncontrolled rants, has fallen asleep during important meetings, has insulted and demeaned veterans, the disabled, the media, immigrants, the leaders of other countries, …. No other president has publicly stated the possibility of seizing other countries because he wants them under the control of the United States. No other president has been convicted of crimes in the courts that the average person would be jailed for committing.

Why? The currently Untied States of America appears to be in deep shit. Can it be saved and our democracy endure, or are we doomed to become
Putin’s plaything?
